What is Woolverton U? Woolverton University (WU) was formally started in the fall of 2001. It was created to help Woolverton Printing Co. (WPCO) customers learn more about how the graphic arts industry relates to the printing industry. With this knowledge, our customers are able to make more of their printing budgets, become more efficient, make new and exciting pieces and keep up with an ever-changing industry. In the fall of 2000, WPCO held three "Tools of the Trade" seminars that were broken into Prepress, Ink & Paper and Press & Finishing. These seminars were very good, but most of the attendees said there was too much information too quickly. Classes also had to be kept small so that students felt comfortable and could learn at their pace. Even more important, the classes had to be short and scheduled at a convenient time -and at a good price - aka, free. Over that next year, we developed a program that modeled a normal university. For example, print buyers may want to know the basics of turning in electronic files, but really want to know estimating. Designers however, want to know how to manage their color tags better. Again, the underlying theme of Woolverton University is to help the students improve their knowledge.
